David Guetta tells us how he started out in Ibiza, simply trying to get French DJs noticed...
“I started it as a project to bring some French guys to Ibiza,” reveals David, moments after his arrival on the island for tonight’s fortnightly F**k Me I’m Famous soiree at Pacha.
“You British guys were virtually running the island and people were just laughing at us. So we made these cool t-shirts and gave them to cool people. We built up a bit of a vibe by taking a ghetto blaster on the beach. And they came and realised that the French DJs were cool too.”
“Now we’ve got a larger family, with people like Tocadisco playing for us, and it’s got much bigger than being just about French DJs.”
Peace and Love
With F**k Me... night around the world and a neat line in shiny t-shirt sales it’s got a whole lot bigger indeed.
Success wasn’t quite as simple as Guetta makes out though. He owes a large part of it to his wife getting thoroughly connected among the island’s glamour set too.
But according to David, his night is not about being exclusive.
“I’m a kinda peace and love guy and there’s a big hippie heritage here. It’s such a great mix, we don’t just want the rich and famous,” he says.
“Everybody here is cool and looks really unique. The underground culture is the mainstream here too. Just look at the billboards. Ask anybody in the street - all those who are passionate about house music are here. This is what I love, 5000 people and you feel as one. This is my drug as a DJ.” |
